I ran 4.3 miles on the trails at the park this morning. With about a mile to go, I heard a rumbling noise. I looked to my right and a large dead oak tree was falling about 5 feet from me. Luckily, it was falling parallel to the trail. The trunk was breaking off just above ground level and I jumped away, in case it swung over on the trail. In the years I have been running at the park, I have seem branches fall and heard trees fall at a distance, but never this close.
