Wrapping up August

 Late this morning, I ran 3.1 miles at the state park, mostly on newly re-opened trails.  I must have mildly sprained my right ankle coping with all the roots on the trail, so I finished on the roads.  The ankle is sore tonight, but I am sure it will be okay tomorrow.  Being Labor Day weekend, the park was crowded for a change.  For the month of August, I ran 100.04 miles (average 3.2 per day), but at least 3.1 per day.  I still have back pain, but, obviously, it is not as bad as June and July.  My back surgery was on July 22.  Hopefully, my back will gradually get better and I can improve my running speed.  I am scheduled to see the doc for a follow-up on September 11.

All trails

 I went out to the park this afternoon and ran 3.1 miles on the empty trails.

Fass Brewery 5K

 As usual for most Thursday evenings, I ran the Fass Brewery 5K in Conroe.

Busy day

 I had a busy day, including spending over an hour dealing with the incompetent (or untrained) people at Home Depot, a trip to Conroe and mowing the lawn, but made it into town to run late this evening.  Got in 3.5 miles.

More rain

 Nice much needed heavy rain this afternoon.  It stopped in time for the group to meet at the park, though.  I stayed on the park roads and got in 3.3 miles.

Finally a little rain

 After weeks of zero rain, we had a little rain in and around Huntsville this afternoon, which cooled things off a bit.  I ran 3.8 miles on the roads at the state park this evening.  It was 80 degrees when I finished.

Late Sunday morning run

 I had to go out of town early this afternoon, so I ran 3.1 miles in town.  Hot, as expected in late August.

Spindle Tree 5K

 I got up early this morning and drove down to Magnolia and ran the Spindle Tree 5K Park Run at 7:30 a.m.  Finished in 57:30.

Mostly trails

 I ran 3.1 miles at the state park this afternoon, mostly on the trails.

Fass Brewery 5K

 I ran the Fass Brewery 5K in Conroe tonight - for the 45th time.

All roads again

 I went to the state park late this evening and ran 3.6 miles on the roads, mostly through the nearly empty camping areas.

101 degrees

 It was 101 degrees when I finished running at the state park this evening.  Got in 3.3 miles on the roads.

Walk and run

 I went out in my sub-division in the mid-afternoon when it was about 100 degrees and walked with an engineer wheel for 2 miles to measure a part of a new race course for our running club.  Got it done, but still have another section to do.  Then, I went to the park and ran 3.1 miles on the park roads.

Sunday afternoon at the park

 I ran at the state park late this afternoon.  For a Sunday afternoon, the park was almost empty.  I did not see anyone on the trails and there were very few campers.  I ran 3.6 miles on the trails and roads.

Heat Wave 5K

 I ran our club's Heat Wave 5K this morning at the Waterwood Sub-division, about 15 miles east of Huntsville.  Nice course, but hilly and hot.  I finished in 58:15.

All trails

 I went to the state park early this afternoon when it was good and hot.  I planned to run the roads, but got on the rough trails.  I ran 3.2 miles.

Fleet Feet Run

The Fass Run Club of Conroe ran in The Woodlands this evening, along with the regulars at the Fleet Feet store Thursday run.  I ran 3.1 miles, most of it in heavy rain.  About 2 miles into the run, the lightning got so bad that I took shelter for about 10 minutes.  

Back to the park

 I waited until late this evening when it was a little cooler (less hot, anyway) and went to the park to run.  Got in 3.3 miles on the park roads.

Group day at the park

 I met up with the group at the state park this evening and ran 3.2 miles on the roads.

Another 3.5

 I went out to the nearly empty state park this evening and ran 3.5 miles on the park roads.

Millican, but not to run

 I went over to Millican late this morning to attend the Millican Summer Series post-party.  Good BBQ and a good visit with runner friends.  I thought about running, but it was so hot.  I ran in Huntsville late this evening.  Got in 3.5 miles.

Southern Star Brewery 5K

 For the 10th straight year, I ran the 10th Annual Southern Star Brewery 5K in Conroe this morning.  I finished in 54:34 and was 2nd of 2 in the 80 and over age group.  Got to visit with a lot of good friends.

Unplanned trail course

 I went out to the state park early this afternoon and ran an unplanned course on the newly opened trails.  Came out to be 3.1 miles.  I have now run all the open trails.  The summer rain storm and hurricane caused some serious damage.  In several places, the damage was so bad that they had to re-route the trail.

Millican Summer Series Race Number 6

 After missing 3 races, I made it over to Millican this evening for the 6th and last of the Millican Summer Series 5K (actually 3.2 miles) Trail Run.  At least the course was dry, with no water crossings.  I took a couple light falls on the trails and finished in 1:09:30, about 3 minutes faster than my last run there.

Mostly park roads

 I trimmed some trees in my yard today and hauled a load to the city dump.  After some rest, I went to the park and ran 3.3 miles, mostly on the park roads.

Trails open again

 They opened about 3.5 miles of trails at Huntsville State Park this week.  I met up with the group at the park this evening.  I ran 1.9 miles on the trails and then 1.3 on the roads, for a total of 3.2 miles.  Just as I finished, I remembered that I was suppose to do a short run today because of the leg surgery yesterday.  In any case, I survived.  While much work has been done to open  the trails, they are much tougher than before.  Exposed roots everywhere and lots of mud on the segment along the lake.  The long bridges at the end of the lake, which I ran across when doing those 4-miles runs and runs around the lake, are wiped out.  It will be months before they are rebuilt.

Leg surgery today

 I got up early and ran 3.1 miles in town before going to the doc for my 4th and last leg surgery.  This time, they neutralized a vein in my left leg.  If all goes well, I should be able to get out of compression socks in a couple weeks.

Sunday Night 5K

 I went down to The Woodlands this evening and ran the Sunday Night 5K.  Finished in 56:11.

Change of plans

 I got up early this morning to drive down to Magnolia to run the Spindle Tree 5K Park Run at 7:30.  However, there was a bad wreck on I-45 and I was at a standstill for an hour.  By the time traffic was moving again, it was too late for the race.  I made a U-turn and headed back to Huntsville.  After taking a nap, I went to the park and ran 3.1 miles on the roads.

Double run

 I went into town early this afternoon to run.  My back was hurting and I stopped at 1.2 miles.  After going home and doing yard work and taking some Ibuprofen, I felt better this evening.  So, I went back into town and ran another 2.2 miles.  Total 3.3 for the day.

Fass Brewery 5K

 I went down to Conroe this evening and ran the Fass Brewery 5K.  My first 5K distance in a while.
