Finishing up July

 I ran 4.3 miles on the trails at the state park this afternoon.  That gives me  105.9 miles for the month of July (average 3.42 per day) and 775.2 miles for 2022.

A no-race Saturday

Sorta unusual, but I did not have a race this Saturday morning.  Instead, I attended a funeral over in Caldwell this morning.  I did make it out to the state park late this afternoon and ran 3.6 miles on the trails.

Another day without rain

 We have had virtually no rain at my house for over 2 months.  I suppose the good news is that I have not had to take time to mow the grass and had more time for running. Seriously, I hope the grass, bushes and trees survive the drought.  I did make it out to the park early this afternoon and ran 3.3 miles on the trails.

Millican Summer Series - Race 5

 I drove the 51 miles to Millican this evening to run the Millican Summer Series 5K Trail  Run (Race 5).  As I drove over, I could see at least 4 thunderstorms off in the distance.  However, none at the race (or at my house).  I finished the race in 56:03, less than a minute slower than the last race.  First place of one in the 81 and over age group.

Early afternoon run

 It was only about 99 degrees when I got to the park early this afternoon.  Got in 3.1 miles on the roads.

3.5 on the roads

As usual for lately, it was 100 degrees when I got to the park this evening.  Ran 3.5 on the roads.

Back to trails

 I made it out to the park early this afternoon and ran 3.3 miles on the trails.

Easy 4.1 on the trails

 With my left knee bandaged up, I took it easy on the trails at the park this afternoon.  Got in 4.1 miles.  No falls.

Dog Days 5K

 I ran our club's Dog Days 5K at Elkins Lake Sub-division in Huntsville this morning.  The course is a roller coaster and, according to my GPS, 3.2 miles.  A hundred yards into the race, I tripped and took a hard fall on the asphalt.  My left knee took most of the impact.  So, I ran the rest of the race with a red left sock.  I ended up finishing in 51 minutes and something.

Early afternoon on the trails

 I made it out to the park early this afternoon and got in 3.4 miles on the trails.  We finally got some rain in the area this afternoon, but at my house my rain gauge showed about 1/32 of an inch.

Park roads

I went to the park this evening to meet up with the group.  I ran 3.2 miles on the roads. 

Different course

 I did not get out to the park until about 2 this afternoon.  I ran a 3.5-mile course on the trails, including some trails that I have not been on for a while.

Getting use to the heat

 It has been over 100 degrees virtually every day for weeks now.  It was 102 when I ran at the park this evening.   Did 3.4 miles on the roads.

Noon run

 I went to the park at noon and ran 3.1 miles on the roads.

Hot Sunday afternoon at the park

 I got out to the park in the middle of the afternoon today when the temperature was 100 and ran 4.3 miles on the trails.  Saw a couple bikers on the trail, but no one else.

Spindle Tree Park Run 5K

 I ran the Spindle Tree Park Run 5K at 7:30 this morning and finished in 47:18, 16 seconds slower than last week.

Friday at the park

 With a race yesterday and another tomorrow, I went to the park this afternoon and ran 3.1 miles on the roads.  That puts me at 50.3 miles total for the first 15 days of the month.

Millican Summer Series - Race 4

 There was some rain in the area this afternoon and we got some sprinkles at my house, the first rain at all in nearly 2 months.  Anyway, the rain cooled things off a bit for the Millican Summer Series 5K (3.3 miles) Trail Run in Millican.  I finished in 55:18, which is a little over 2 minutes faster than my best time for this course.  I had some people close behind me for most of the race and I suppose that pushed me.  I was first of one in the 81 and over age group.

Thank goodness the park roads are partly shaded

 Early this afternoon, I went to the park and ran 3.1 miles on the roads.  With the 100+ temperature every day, thank goodness the roads are partly shaded by the trees.

Group

 The group at the park this evening was just me and Jason.  I ran 3.4 miles on the roads.

Noon

 I got to the park just before noon today and ran 3.3 miles on the roads.  Today, I completed 10 months of running at least 3 miles a day and 14 months of at least 2 miles a day.  I saw on the news today, that yesterday was the hottest day ever in Huntsville.   The official temperature was 111 degrees.

The heat continues

 I do not remember it ever staying so hot in Huntsville and not a drop of rain at my house in well over a month.  I'm not sure exactly what the temperature was when I ran at the park this afternoon, but it was at least 106.  I understand that Houston set an all-time July record today at 105.  In any case, I ran 4.1 miles on the trails.

Spindle Tree Park Run 5K

 I got up early this morning and drove down to Magnolia to run the Spindle Tree Park Run Trail 5K.  7:30 a.m start and a flat course.  I finished in 47:02, which is 21 seconds faster than the last time I ran this race.  I was first in the 80-84 age group.  In fact, I am the only one over 80 to ever run this race.  It's a good thing that I ran early this morning, because the temperature got up to 106 this afternoon.

Mid-afternoon heat

 I did not get a chance to run until about 3 this afternoon,  I ran 3.3 miles on the park roads when the temperature was 102.  Some guy driving by stopped and asked me why I was running in the heat.  I told him that I was running so fast it created a breeze.

About 100

 It was about 100 degrees when I met up with the group at the park this evening.  Curtis said it was 103.  I ran 3.4 miles on the park roads.  Luckily, most of the roads are shaded by the trees.

Trails to myself

 I got to the park about 2 this afternoon and ran 4 miles on the trails.  Did not see another person or a snake on the trail.  Maybe it is just too hot for both.

Back to the park

 After 3 days out-of-town races, I went to the park this evening and ran 3.5 miles on the roads.

Stu's Country Mile 5K

 For the 26th consecutive time, I ran Stu's Country Mile 5K in Centerville this morning.  Before the 26-race streak, I ran it once before when it was a 5-mile race.  It was hot (as usual) and I was sluggish the first mile, probably from the race late yesterday.  I finished in 48:32 and was 3rd of 3 in the 70 and over age group.

Sunday Night 5K

 As usual for the first Sunday of the month, I ran the Sunday Night 5K in The Woodlands this evening.  I finished in 47:12, a whole 2 seconds faster than my 5K yesterday.

Freedom 5K

I ran the Freedom 5K in Hilltop Lakes, Texas (58 miles NW of Huntsville) early this morning.  A new Texas city for me.  Nice small race, very hilly course and some rough roads.  Definitely slowed me down a little.  I finished in 47:14 and was 1st of 1 in the 80 and over age group. 

In between races

 With a race yesterday and three races in the next three days, I was in between today.  I ran 3.4 miles on the park roads early this afternoon.  There was some rain in the area (not a drop at my house), so it was a little cooler.
