Doctors Appointment Tomorrow

I called the doctor's (orthopedic surgeon) office this morning and have an appointment tomorrow afternoon. I gave the nurse my symptoms and she immediately diagnosed it as a sciatic nerve problem. She gave me the appointment, but thinks that I will be referred to a back specialist. I was talking to one of my friends at Nautilus this afternoon. He had the same symptoms and ended up having back surgery to fix the sciatic nerve problem. My only question is: Can I have back surgery and run the same day? I'll wait and see what the doctor says tomorrow before I worry too much about it. In the meantime, my leg was still very sore today and I ran a mile at the track.

Ken: I am sorry about this problem you are having. Back surgery: yuk! By the time you would get over that, you would be in yet another age group.

The doctor will probably tell you to stop running immediately; do not pass GO; do not collect $ 200 And you will consider all that and go out and run through it. :)

Seriously Ken, I really hope this turns out well for you. God Bless

You can absolutely run ONLY after you see a chiropractor. I had a serious case of sciatic nerve pain. The pain ran down to the point i could feel it on my shin even to the foot. I went to a chiropractor. Had six adjustments and can say i am a 100% cured. This issue was 10 yrs ago. Now only a quick adjustment every year. Painless... and saved $$$ and needless surgery. Please please see a chiropractor first. Do not fall for the trap of serious medical surgery when likely you will not need anyway.

Thanks, Jean. I just posted the results of my visit with the doctor. If it turns out to be the sciatic nerve, I will talk to him about chiropractor treatment in lieu of medical treatment.
